About this site
Obirase (大平瀬) is a boat-dived wall site and the signature dive of Mageshima off Tanegashima in Kagoshima Prefecture, about 45 minutes by boat, with a maximum depth of 25 m. The route changes with the tide: on the up-current run the dive drifts over white sand at 18 m past scattered rocks to a large rock, where the adult emperor and semicircle angelfish are unusually large. On the down-current run a big rock has a crevasse packed with fish, and following the drop-off with the rock on the left reaches a detached rock 30 m out that holds many nudibranchs. Advanced divers only.
