About this site
L'Etang de Thau is a large coastal lagoon in the Herault department of Occitanie, separated from the Mediterranean by a narrow strip of land near Sete. The lagoon is well known for its oyster and mussel farming, with long lines of shellfish tables visible across much of its water. It sits inland of Palavas les Flots along this stretch of the Languedoc coast, connected to the sea through channels near Sete and Marseillan.
