La Cheminee De Brandele lies off Mayotte, the French island territory in the Comoros archipelago in the western Indian Ocean, situated between Madagascar and the African mainland. Dive sites along Mayotte's coastline, ringed by one of the region's largest lagoons and barrier reefs, are typically reached by short boat trips from settlements near the shore. Divers here have reported bluefin trevally, brown tang, green jobfish, humpnose bigeye bream, Indian bullethead parrotfish, Indian gold-ring bristletooth, longbarbel goatfish, and twospot bristletooth around the site.
