La Corbetena

La Corbetena is a rocky islet off the tip of Punta de Mita, at the northern entrance to Banderas Bay in Jalisco, Mexico, marking the boundary between the bay and the open Pacific. The site bottoms out around a rock structure to a maximum depth of about 36.6 metres and is rated technical, reflecting its exposed position facing open ocean. Divers have reported strong currents around the pinnacle, consistent with its reputation for surge in the Puerto Vallarta and Punta Mita area. Encounters reported here include dolphins, jacks and amberjack, manta rays, reef sharks, and sea turtles, drawn to the nutrient-rich water where the bay meets deeper Pacific currents. Boat access is typically from Punta Mita or nearby Puerto Vallarta marinas, with dive timing dependent on current conditions around the exposed rock.
