About this site

La Jolla Cove sits along the coast of La Jolla, a neighborhood of San Diego in Southern California, within the San Diego-Scripps Coastal Marine Conservation Area. It is a small, sheltered cove backed by cliffs, popular for shore diving over a reef bottom that reaches a maximum depth of around 7 metres, making it a beginner-friendly site. Leopard sharks are a regular sighting here, and divers have also reported barracuda, guitarfish, and octopus among the rocky reef. Conditions are not without their quirks, though: parking near the cove can be difficult, surf entry takes some care, and visibility has been known to turn poor in late winter. Despite that, its easy beach access and protected status keep it a steady draw for both new and experienced divers looking to spend time close to shore.
