Las Palmas sits along the west coast of Cozumel, part of the reef system running off the island's leeward shore in the Yucatan Peninsula's Quintana Roo state. Dive boats reach this stretch of coast from the town of San Miguel de Cozumel, a short run north or south depending on conditions that day. The site sits over a reef bottom to a maximum depth of about 21 metres, rated a beginner dive with light current and good visibility. Divers here have reported angelfish, parrotfish, and lobster along the reef, along with sightings of barracuda, eagle rays, nurse sharks, sea turtles, tuna, and even hammerhead sharks.
