About this site
This site is the wreck of RMS Leinster, a mail packet steamer torpedoed by the German submarine UB-123 in October 1918 while sailing from Dublin to Holyhead. The sinking, which occurred in the Irish Sea near the Kish Bank, remains one of the worst losses of life in the history of the Irish Sea, with several hundred passengers and crew lost. The wreck lies broken on the seabed at a depth of around 30 to 40 metres, well offshore from Dublin, and is reached by boat rather than from shore. Its depth, exposure to current, and distance from land make it a dive suited to experienced divers with deep wreck experience rather than a casual outing.
