Lockheed Tristar

This site lies in the Gulf of Aqaba off Jordan's Red Sea coast, near the marine park south of Aqaba city. It centers on a deliberately sunk Lockheed L-1011 TriStar airliner, put down by the Royal Jordanian government to create an artificial reef and attraction for divers. The aircraft was stripped and prepared before scuttling, and it now sits on a sandy bottom as a large, intact-looking airframe reaching a maximum depth of around 31 metres, with visibility generally described as great. It is rated a beginner dive, though the fuselage offers an overhead swim-through that divers have flagged as a penetration hazard for those going inside. Bannerfish and fusilier have also been spotted around the wreck. Aqaba's dive sites in this stretch of coast are generally reached by boat or shore entry from the nearby resort area.
