Los Gemelos

Los Gemelos, meaning "the twins," refers to a pair of rocky pinnacles off Malpelo Island, a remote volcanic outcrop in the eastern Pacific roughly 500 kilometres off the Colombian coast. Malpelo is known for big pelagic action, particularly large aggregations of hammerhead sharks along with silky sharks and other open-water species drawn to the strong currents around its underwater topography. Diving here typically requires a liveaboard, as the island is far offshore and access is tightly controlled as part of a protected sanctuary. Currents at Malpelo's outer rock formations are often strong, and the site is generally considered suited to experienced divers comfortable with open ocean conditions and depth.
