About this site
Maavaru is a reef site named for the inhabited island of the same name in Baa Atoll, part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in the central Indian Ocean. Dive operators based on nearby resort and local islands run trips out to the reef, which reaches a maximum depth of around 30 metres and is rated a beginner dive. A drop off has been noted at the site, and divers have reported barracuda, reef sharks, and snapper around the reef.
