About this site
Maratua is an atoll in the Derawan archipelago off the northeast coast of Kalimantan, Indonesia, part of the Coral Triangle. The island's reefs fringe a large lagoon and are reached by boat from the small villages scattered around the atoll's rim. Maratua Reef itself reaches a maximum depth of around 30 metres, with the fringing slopes offering the typical drop-off structure found around the atoll's edge.
