About this site
Matauvau Pass is a channel through the barrier reef of Moorea, one of the Society Islands of French Polynesia, connecting the lagoon to the open water off the north coast. Passes like this around Moorea are used as boat access points between the sheltered lagoon and the outer reef slope. The site reaches a maximum depth of around 16 metres and is rated a beginner dive, though divers have reported strong current running through the channel. Damselfish, surgeonfish, and triggerfish have also been spotted along the reef here.
