About this site
Maubara sits on the north coast of Timor-Leste, west of Dili along the road toward the Indonesian border, and is known on land for its Dutch colonial fort overlooking the Wetar Strait. The dive site off this stretch of coastline reaches a maximum depth of around 40 metres and is rated a beginner dive. Divers have reported barracuda, mackerel, and tuna passing through, and strong currents have also been noted here, so conditions can vary from what the beginner grading suggests.
