Nebo

Nebo (Wreck) is the wooden wreckage of an old steamer that sank in 1884, lying about 1 km north-west of Aliwal Shoal. She was a 2000 ton steamship on her maiden voyage from Sunderland to Durban, carrying the Amanzimtoti railway bridge, when she went down on 20 May. She was officially reported to have struck an uncharted pinnacle, though that version is doubted, and some believe the weight of the bridge on deck let a large wave capsize her. She now lies upside down.

The propeller and the boiler can still be seen, and several kinds of shrimp live around the boiler. There are many eels and large shoals of baitfish at all times of the year, and barracuda and tuna hunt the smaller fish that shelter here. Paper fish and frogfish have also been sighted on the wreck. The dive is rated advanced, with a maximum depth of 27 metres.
