Norman Reef

Norman Reef lies on the outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef, off the coast of Cairns and Port Douglas in Far North Queensland, and is one of the outer reef sites regularly visited by day boats making the run out from those two towns. It sits in an area of coral bommies and channels typical of the outer reef, with coral gardens over a reef bottom reaching a maximum depth of around 12 metres, rated as a beginner dive. Norman Reef is a common choice for both introductory and certified divers, and it is also popular with snorkellers on the same trips. Sea turtles have been spotted here, and jellyfish have also been reported at times, so it is worth checking conditions on the day. Visibility and conditions there depend a lot on season and weather, as with the outer reef generally.
