Oujima Point

Oujima Point (奥武島ポイント) is a shore-entry muck site on Ou Island, reached by a short bridge from southern Okinawa's main island, 40 to 50 minutes by car from Naha, with a maximum depth of 9 m and an average around 6 m. Cars can drive to the water's edge, and the sheltered inner reef has almost no waves, so it is used heavily for courses and is diveable in almost any weather. The sandy-mud bottom has little coral, but seahorses, juvenile batfish, cleaner shrimp, shrimp-goby pairs, schooling mullet and barracuda are found, with nudibranchs, cuttlefish, frogfish and ghost pipefish in the cool season. Visibility varies from 2 to over 10 m; current is usually slight but can run around the turn of the tide or with typhoon swell; suitable from beginner level.
