About this site
Rainbow Reef lies in the Somosomo Strait between Taveuni and Vanua Levu in Fiji, a passage known for strong tidal flows funneling between the two islands. The site is a popular stop for operators based out of Taveuni, and the strait itself is one of the more heavily dived channels in this part of Fiji. The reef here reaches a maximum depth of around 61 metres and is rated a technical dive over reef terrain. Divers have reported barracuda, grouper, leopard sharks, manta rays, Napoleon wrasse, and triggerfish along the reef.
