About this site
Ras Sanat lies along the Musandam Peninsula, the rugged finger of Oman that juts into the Strait of Hormuz between the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Gulf. This coastline is defined by steep limestone cliffs dropping straight into the sea, with dive sites in the area typically reached by boat from towns like Khasab. The reef here tops out at around 12 metres but is rated an advanced dive, a reflection of the currents divers have to contend with, including down currents, up currents, horizontal currents, and a stretch known among divers as a washing machine area. Divers have also reported barracuda, eagle rays, leopard sharks, trevally, and whale sharks passing through.
