About this site
Rukan Higashi Drop-off (ルカン東ドロップ) is a boat-dive wall on the Rukan atoll, about 40 minutes from Naha, Okinawa, with a maximum depth of 30 m and an average around 20 m. It is dived as a drift along the outer wall, where the atoll top sits at 3 m and the face falls vertically to around 50 m, so buoyancy and depth control matter. Pelagic encounters are frequent, with schools of rainbow runner and fusiliers, whitetip reef sharks, sea turtles and dogtooth tuna. Current is strong at times and a signal float is essential; intermediate and above.
