About this site
Sail Rock lies just off Perhentian Besar, one of the two main islands in the Perhentian group off the northeast coast of Terengganu in Malaysia. The site takes its name from a rocky outcrop breaking the surface, part of the granite formations scattered around the island, with a reef bottom reaching a maximum depth of about 18 metres. It is rated a beginner dive, though divers should be aware of deep drop offs along the site. Barracuda are a regular sighting here, and divers have also reported bumphead parrotfish, eagle rays, fusiliers, grouper, parrotfish, reef sharks, and sea turtles. Boat trips out to sites like this typically run from the resorts and jetties on Perhentian Besar and its neighboring island, Perhentian Kecil.
