About this site
Paxi is a small island in the Ionian Sea south of Corfu, known for its indented coastline of limestone caves and inlets cut into the cliffs of its western shore. Seal Cave takes its name from the monk seals once reported in caverns along this coast, and dive sites here are typically reached by boat from Gaios or the smaller harbors around the island. Divers exploring the cave have reported black longspine urchins, European parrotfish, mauve stingers, Mediterranean damselfish, ornate wrasse, Saint Piran's hermit crabs, and wide-eyed flounder among the life along the rock and cave walls.
