About this site
Seaventures is a converted oil rig turned dive resort moored off Mabul Island in the Celebes Sea, Sabah, on the Malaysian side of Borneo. Divers stay on the rig itself and drop straight into the water beneath its legs, which have become a vertical reef structure encrusted with soft corals and sponges over the decades. The site is known for muck-style critters mixed with pelagic sightings, including schooling barracuda and jacks that circle the rig's pilings, along with frequent turtle sightings. Depths under the rig run from the surface down past 20 metres along the legs and mooring lines, with visibility and current varying with tide. It sits close to Mabul and within range of Sipadan, making it a popular base for divers working both muck and open water dives in the area, and is generally considered suitable for a range of experience levels given the sheltered, structured nature of the dive.
