About this site
Secret Reef sits off Perhentian Kecil, one of the two main islands in the Perhentian group off the coast of Terengganu in northeast Malaysia, in the South China Sea. Dive sites around these islands are typically reached by short boat rides from the resorts and jetties on Kecil and its neighbouring island, Perhentian Besar. This site has a sand bottom reaching a maximum depth of around 37.5 metres and is rated a beginner dive. It is known for macro life, with frogfish, ghost pipefish, nudibranchs, and seahorses regularly found here. Divers have also reported barracuda, flying gurnard, harlequin shrimp, lionfish, mimic octopus, octopus, pipefish, pufferfish, and scorpionfish on the reef.
