Lan An lies along the coast of Orchid Island (Lanyu), a small volcanic island off the southeastern coast of Taiwan, home to the indigenous Tao people. The island's shoreline is fringed with rocky coves and coral-lined patches typical of this part of the Taitung offshore region.
