About this site
This 137 foot sailing vessel stranded, then slid into deeper water one and one half miles southeast of the largest of the Huron Islands. She was running in a heavy smoke/fog on September 18, 1898 when the disaster occurred. Today, divers will find the remains of the Southwest scattered in 100 feet of water. Sometimes mistakenly recorded as South West. Lies in about 30.5 m; sank 1898.
