About this site
Susaki Ne (須崎根) is a boat site 20 minutes from Suzaki near Shimoda on the southern Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka, closed from January to March. A large pinnacle rises from pure white sand with a tunnel, soft coral and terraces of kelp along a drop-off from 4.5 m to 23 m, with white sand below; maximum depth 25 m, average around 18 m, intermediate and above, with current that is occasionally strong. Frogfish sit on the reef top among schooling small fish, and takabe and chicken grunt schools, eagle rays, emperor angelfish, spiny lobster, anthias, anemonefish, knifejaw, wrasse, large red grouper, longtooth grouper up to 1.5 m and boarfish are seen.
