About this site
Alor Island lies in East Nusa Tenggara, part of the Lesser Sunda chain in eastern Indonesia, separated from Timor and Flores by narrow, current-swept straits. The waters around Alor are known for their deep channels and volcanic topography, drawing divers to the region for its coral formations and rich fish life. The Cathedral is a reef site reaching a maximum depth of around 30 metres, rated an advanced dive, and reached by small boat from villages along the strait. Divers here have reported ghost pipefish, leaf scorpionfish, and scorpionfish tucked into the reef, along with trevally and tuna passing through the water column.
