About this site
The Chimney lies offshore from Townsville, on the central Queensland coast facing the Coral Sea, in an area of the Great Barrier Reef region reached by boat from the mainland, typically dived as a day trip from Townsville or nearby Magnetic Island. It is a shallow reef site with a maximum depth of around 8 metres, but it is rated an advanced dive, and divers have reported strong currents and surface swell here. Snapper, trevally, and unicornfish have also been reported on the reef.
