The Eagle

The Eagle is a former freighter sunk off Islamorada in the Florida Keys in 1985 as an artificial reef, resting near Alligator Reef in the Atlantic. The ship is around 287 feet long and lies on its side, broken into sections after storms over the years, on a sand bottom reaching a maximum depth of around 33.5 metres. Visibility here is typically great, and the wreck draws divers for its size and structure as much as for the fish life built up around it, including grouper and hammerhead sharks, with divers also reporting bull sharks and garden eels on occasion. It is rated an advanced dive given its depth and the conditions around the hull.
