About this site
The Royal Navy Lighter lies off Zanzibar West, on the Zanzibar Archipelago's coast of Tanzania in the western Indian Ocean. As its name suggests, the wreck is a small naval vessel of the type used to ferry cargo or equipment between ships and shore, sitting within the coastal diving grounds around Zanzibar, an island region long tied to Indian Ocean trade and naval routes along the East African coast. The site reaches a maximum depth of around 30 metres and is rated an advanced dive. Divers have reported grouper, nurse sharks, stonefish, and trevally around the wreck.
