About this site

Turtle Tomb is a small cave system behind Turtle Cavern at Sipadan, Sabah, Malaysia, east of the jetty. It is reached from shore and rated advanced.

Follow the left-hand wall of the cavern to its end and swim around the big rock in the way. That brings you to a small tunnel just big enough for one diver. Behind the tunnel a cave opens with several side tunnels. A tiny window opens onto the wall close to Barracuda Point, and a diver who removes their gear and is very slim might exit there. A scorpionfish is usually sitting at that exit.

The cave floor is covered with a thick layer of white dust holding countless skeletons of green sea turtles, which died in the cave of asphyxia because they could not find their way out. Stirring up the dust can leave a diver in the same trouble. Enter only with a local guide who knows the cave.
