About this site
Ushibuka Kaichu Koen (牛深海中公園) is a shore-entry site in the Ushibuka marine park in Amakusa, Kumamoto Prefecture, with a maximum depth of 25 m, for intermediate divers and above. A 20 m wall begins immediately after entry, and a very fast, swirling current allows drift diving at certain times of day. The wall is covered in colourful soft coral with fish gathering around it, and sand spreads across the bottom, where the current keeps reshaping the terrain. The walk to the water is long, and there is a toilet; anemonefish, John Dory, banded coral shrimp, eagle rays and porcupinefish are among the sightings.
