Waterlemon Cay sits off the northeastern shore of St. John in the US Virgin Islands, within Virgin Islands National Park. The site is shallow, with a maximum depth of around 4.6 metres, and is rated a beginner dive. Reaching it involves a swim of roughly 100 yards from shore, and conditions are not always as calm as the park setting suggests: divers have reported currents and strong currents at times, along with high winds that can stir things up. Eagle rays have also been spotted here. Despite these reported hazards, the shallow depth keeps it approachable for snorkelers and new divers.
