About this site
West of Eden lies off Koh Payu in the Similan Islands, part of Mu Ko Similan National Park in Phang Nga province off Thailand's Andaman coast, usually reached by liveaboard or day boat from Khao Lak or Phuket. The site sits over a rock bottom to a maximum depth of around 30 metres and is rated a beginner dive despite the current here running strong, with visibility generally good. Frogfish, manta rays, sea turtles, trevally, and whale sharks are all found on this site, and divers have also reported leopard sharks, moray eels, Napoleon wrasse, ghost pipefish, nudibranchs, and various reef fish such as sweetlips, snapper, and fusiliers. Occasional cold water upwellings have been noted, bringing temperatures down to around 23 to 24 degrees Celsius along with stronger thermoclines and temporary drops in visibility.
