About this site
East of Eden is a reef on the eastern side of Island 7 in the Similan Islands, gently sloping from 5 to 40 m and suitable for divers of all levels. It is known for large clusters of staghorn coral and coral outcrops, with a healthy hard coral reef mixed with soft corals. Many divers rate it as one of the most beautiful reefs in the area.
The highlight is a large rock called Gluay-Mai, the orchid garden, which runs from 20 m up to 12 m and is covered with colourful soft coral and hot pink anemone coral at the top. A gentle current often makes for a slow drift, and the site is a fantastic night dive.
Ghost pipefish, ribbon eels, angelfish, scorpionfish and nudibranchs are found here. Turtles are commonly seen on the shallow reef top, and blacktip and leopard sharks turn up as a bonus, with a good chance of sharks on the outer sandy area in the morning.
