About this site
Wied il-Mielah is a boat-only dive site near the village of L-Gharb on Gozo, Malta, built around a massive natural arch that resembles the now-collapsed Azure Window. The arch leads on to a reef, caverns and tunnels. Depths average 20 m and go beyond 50 m in places.
The entrance to a large cave beneath the arch is at about 16 m, and the cave has an air pocket. The reef extending from the foot of the arch is about 12 m deep and 30 m long, and the passage between the reef and the wall drops to 18 m. Boulders here are covered in colourful sponges.
To the east a wall drops to 50 m and beyond, for those looking at deeper dives. To the west of the valley is another cave that offers good scenery and photo opportunities, and the sea bed there slopes down to 18 to 20 m with scattered boulders.

Marine life includes shoals of barracuda, amberjack, mola mola, common octopus, tuna, Mediterranean cardinalfish and dentex.
The site suits a range of levels. Beginners can enjoy the shallower caves, while the deeper walls are for advanced divers.
