About this site
Vangunu lies in the Western Province of the Solomon Islands, part of the New Georgia group in Melanesia, a region that saw heavy air and sea activity during the Pacific campaign of World War II. This site takes its name from wartime plane wreckage resting in the surrounding waters, part of the broader scatter of debris found through the New Georgia island chain. Divers here have also reported pastel-green wrasse on the site.
