Abu Nuhas

Abu Nuhas is a reef shelf in the Strait of Gubal in the northern Red Sea, known as a graveyard of wrecks after wrecking a number of ships over the years. Several lie along it, commonly dived as the Giannis D, Chrisoula K, Carnatic and Kimon M, ranging from cargo steamers to a wooden-hulled 19th century vessel, at depths reaching around 32 metres and rated an advanced dive over a reef bottom. Divers typically visit by boat from Hurghada or on Red Sea liveaboards transiting the strait. Batfish, grouper, lionfish and scorpionfish are common on the reef and wrecks, and divers have also reported angelfish, barracuda, glassfish, jacks, moray eels, parrotfish, pufferfish, turtles, stingrays, trevally and tuna around the site. Current, strong currents, surge inside the wrecks and swelling waves have also been noted, so the more broken sections are better suited to experienced divers.
