Shaab Abu Nuhas

Shaab Abu Nuhas is a reef in the Red Sea off the Egyptian coast near the Strait of Gubal, notorious among sailors for wrecking multiple ships on its shallow coral platform. Several well known wrecks lie along the reef, including the Giannis D, Carnatic, Chrisoula K, and Kimon M, each broken across the reef slope at varying depths reachable on the same site. The wrecks range from relatively intact sections to badly broken hulls encrusted with coral, and diving here usually involves boat access from Hurghada or a passing liveaboard. The site tops out at around 20 metres and is generally rated a beginner dive over wreck terrain. Divers here have reported barracuda, clownfish, grouper, lionfish, octopus, pufferfish, scorpionfish, snapper, and stonefish among the marine life on the wrecks. Because of the number of wrecks and the reef's exposure to current, it remains a popular stop for divers with an interest in wreck diving in the northern Red Sea.
