About this site
Agujero Azul, the Blue Hole, lies off Playa Chica at Puerto del Carmen on Lanzarote. It is a vertical volcanic tube that drops to about 25 m. Divers enter through a tunnel and then rise through the tube, where the blue light makes a strong contrast.
The adjacent area, known as the Veril de Playa Chica, is a favoured spot for large pelagic animals such as stingrays and, very rarely, hammerhead sharks. The site is rated intermediate and calls for good buoyancy control and depth management.
