About this site
Ajo Ne (アジョウ根) is a boat site 15 minutes from Ukishima on the west coast of the Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka. The topography is a jumble of huge boulders holding large resident fish, with pelagics passing and rays, Japanese bullhead sharks and flounder on the sand; maximum depth 28 m, average around 10 m, suitable from beginner level with no current. Frogfish, seahorses, gobies, stingrays, banded houndsharks, red sea bream, longtooth grouper and many nudibranchs are seen year-round, with schools of chicken grunt and takabe and amberjack from May to October and a peak of nudibranchs from December to March. Because the site is close to a river mouth, sea conditions, season and recent rain need to be checked before entering.
