About this site
Ukishima Beach (浮島ビーチ) is a shore-entry site directly in front of the dive centre at Ukishima on the west coast of the Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka. It is a quiet cove with varied topography of holes, arches and tunnels, a wide sand patch in the middle of the beach, an artificial reef and a guide rope; maximum depth 13 m, average around 6 m, suitable from beginner level with no current. Macro life is the draw, with nudibranchs in large numbers and variety year-round, plus seasonal frogfish, seahorses, ghost pipefish, eagle rays, guitarfish and amberjack, and juvenile wrasses and butterflyfish. Buddy self-guided dives are allowed and it is well suited to photography.
