About this site
The B-24 Liberator wreck lies off Vis Island in the Split-Dalmatia region of Croatia, in the central Adriatic Sea. It is the remains of a United States Army Air Forces B-24 Liberator bomber that went down during World War Two while returning from a mission over occupied Europe, part of the broader pattern of Allied aircraft losses along the Adriatic corridor used by bombers based in Italy. The wreck sits on a seabed of broken aircraft structure at a maximum depth of around 40 metres, and the dive is rated advanced. Vis has become known among divers for its collection of Second World War aircraft and shipwrecks, with this Liberator standing as one of the notable deep-water attractions in the area.
