Cabo Pulmo

Cabo Pulmo sits on the East Cape of the Baja California Sur peninsula, along the Gulf of California, within a national park established in 1995 to protect one of the oldest coral reef systems in that sea. The park was created after local fishing families pushed for protection when catches collapsed, and marine life has rebounded substantially in the decades since, including large schools of fish and periodic pelagic sightings. Divers have reported bull sharks around the park's sites, among other visitors passing through the reef. Diving here is done as a series of named sites along the reef, reached by boat from the small town of Cabo Pulmo itself. Depths and conditions vary considerably between sites within the park, from shallow reef areas to deeper spots with current.
