About this site
El Bajo is a seamount reef off the coast of Baja California Sur, in the waters near La Paz and the lower Sea of Cortez, typically reached by boat from La Paz. It sits over a reef bottom with a maximum depth of around 18.3 metres and is rated as a beginner dive. Hammerhead sharks are a confirmed draw at the seamount, and divers have also reported manta rays, whale sharks, reef sharks, sea turtles, moray eels, and schooling jacks, tuna, snapper, and triggerfish passing through the open water above the formation. Angelfish, parrotfish, and pufferfish round out the reef life divers have noted here as well.
