Cabo Pulmo National Park

Cabo Pulmo National Park sits on the East Cape of the Baja California Sur peninsula, along the Sea of Cortez. It protects one of the few hard coral reef systems in the Gulf of California, built up over thousands of years, and the park was established in 1995 after local fishing families pushed for its protection. The area is known for a strong recovery of fish biomass following decades of no-take enforcement, with reports of large schools of jacks and other pelagics returning to the reefs. Diving and snorkeling access the park from the small village of Cabo Pulmo itself, reached by road from La Paz or San Jose del Cabo.
