About this site
El Cantil sits off the coast of Baja California Sur near the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula, in the waters where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific. This stretch of coastline near Cabo San Lucas is known for its rocky points and drop-offs, typically accessed by boat from the marinas in the Los Cabos area. The reef here tops out at a beginner-friendly maximum depth of around 16.8 metres, and bull sharks are a regular presence on the site. Divers have also reported barracuda, grouper, moray eels, nurse sharks, sea turtles, seahorses, snapper, stingrays, trevally, eagle rays, garden eels, damselfish, and even whales passing through. The site can see downcurrents and variable currents given its northern exposure, and boat traffic in the area tends to be limited.
