About this site
The Catalina Islands are a small chain of islets off the Pacific coast of Guanacaste, Costa Rica, near Playa Flamingo and Playas del Coco, reached by boat from those coastal towns. Diving here runs over a rocky bottom to a maximum depth of around 36 metres, rated intermediate with medium current and generally great visibility. Barracuda, bull sharks, eagle rays, manta rays, and octopus are regularly encountered, and divers have also reported angelfish, surgeonfish, whales, and even whale sharks passing through. Currents and swells can be unpredictable and visibility can vary, so conditions are worth checking before a dive.
