About this site
Cuevas De Afuera lies along the Caribbean coastline of Quintana Roo, near Cancun on the Yucatan Peninsula, in an area shaped by the region's limestone geology and its network of cave and cenote formations. The site reaches a maximum depth of around 20 metres over a reef bottom, with visibility generally reported as great. It is rated an advanced dive, partly due to fragile formations and sections of overhead environment that have been noted here. Nurse sharks are a regular sight on the reef, and divers have also reported barracuda, eagle rays, moray eels, and reef sharks around the site.
