About this site
Dozaki (堂崎) is a boat-dive wall at the northernmost point of Kume Island, Okinawa, about 20 minutes from harbour, with a maximum depth of 30 m and an average around 16 m. It is a pelagic and big-fish site with a drop-off, crevasses and holes; yellowtail fusiliers, pyramid butterflyfish and redtooth triggerfish school on the drop-off, and schools of dogtooth tuna and Napoleon wrasse pass through. Schools of barracuda and sea turtles often appear on the shelf, and the wall carries colourful sea fans that sometimes host pygmy seahorses. Suitable from beginner level, with the deeper wall for those seeking rarer subjects.
